The legend has done it again ladies and gentleman…
Trading a guy that wasn’t much of a factor for the defense last season and wasn’t going to be in the rotation much this year for a mid round pick while also freeing up some cap space…Are you kidding me Howie?!? How do these teams continue to let him get away with this.
This moves gives the Eagles about $40 million in cap space and the now have 13 draft picks in the next few seasons. That being said, you can bet that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will still be looking to add a veteran edge rusher before the season starts.
While we need the young guys to develop, having some veteran presence is going to be much needed to help the growth of the young players.
There are still some quality options that could be good fits for that role.
As of now guys like Matthew Judon, Jadeveon Clowney, and Von Miller are still on the market. Any of those three guys could come in and play a decent amount of snaps if needed and help the young guys learn the ropes.
Personally, I like the idea of Miller or Clowney the best. Judon isn’t a bad option but I don’t love the idea of him. The important thing with this trade is that the Eagles have given themselves more flexibility and aren’t going to be wasting money on a guy that wasn’t working out here.
Howie has earned our trust and has once again made a move that will help this team continue to be Super Bowl contenders for years to come.
