The Edmonton Oilers eliminated the Dallas Stars in 5 games the other day after winning 4 straight games after losing game 1. “Who cares? isn’t this a Philly site?”
Yes, it is and this is significant information because of what happened in game 5 of that series. The Edmonton Oilers scored goals on their first two shots of the game and were up 3-0 before the Stars could even blink.
The Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger was in net for those first two goals before being pulled just over 7 minutes into the game. It was a weird interaction as the Stars called a timeout and Oettinger started skating back towards the net before DeBoer called him back and pulled him.
Things only got worse after the game when the Stars were officially eliminated.
Ooof, talk about throwing your star goaltender under the bus. Look, I am all for holding players accountable but that shit should stay in the room for the most part. Was Oettinger great in this series? No, not at all but pretty unfair to put all of the blame on him.
The Stars didn’t give him much help offensively and their defense fell apart at times.
Oettinger is only 26 years old and has already established himself as a top goalie in the league. In his career he has a GAA of 2.52 and a SV% of .912 with 12 shutouts. He was also one of the two goalies for Team USA in the four nations tournament and most likely will be on the Olympic squad.
Which brings me to the point of this whole article…If the Dallas Stars don’t fire Pete DeBoer, Danny Briere should be on the phone with them seeing what it would take to trade for Jake Oettinger.

Goaltending has been a need for the Flyers ever since Carter Hart was named in the Team Canada sexual assault case. While they have tried to find the solution in house, so far that hasn’t worked at all.
Sure, Sam Ersson has shown some flashes here and there but does anyone think he is a legit number one goaltender? I don’t. Kolosov is gone back to the KHL which leaves us with Fedotov and Ersson as the tandem going into the season.
If there is a chance Dallas would move on from Oettinger, the Flyers should be aggressive in trying to get him. He would immediately fill a major need and help take the next steps in this rebuild.
The Flyers have plenty of draft capital to move and some prospects they could part with as well to sweeten the deal to acquire Oettinger from Dallas.
This is obviosuly a pipe dream but after the way everything went down the last two days, the Flyers would be dumb to at least not kick tires on this.
