What If The Sixers Traded Embiid For The First Overall Pick?

A good friend of mine brought up an interesting conversation topic to me and told me I should write about it(Shoutout Danny).

What if the Sixers traded Joel Embiid and the third overall pick to the Mavericks for the first overall pick?

I’ll be honest this was something that wasn’t even remotely on my radar but now that it is I kind of love the idea.

I’ve been very open about not being a huge Sixers/NBA guy but I know enough to hold my own.

The Sixers are not just one piece away from being a Championship contender. We have no clue how healthy Embiid will be come next season and Paul George sucks. Sure they have some nice young pieces but is that enough?

Sooooo what if we take Embiid and the third overall pick ship them off to Dallas and Draft Cooper Flagg.

Adding Flagg while keeping Maxey and McCain would be perfect. Building around those three in my opinion is way more exciting than whatever they are gonna do with the current group.

Maxey is already a star, McCain looks like he is going to be a great player and Flagg has some great potential. Would they be a contender this year if they made this deal? No, they wouldn’t but look at what the Thunder have built with all of their draft picks. This would put the Sixers in a much better position going forward.

Would Dallas actually make this deal? Probably not but also they traded Luka for Anthony Davis so fucking anything is possible.

We’ve already seen reports of the Sixers looking to move up to the 2nd pick and have four guys that they are really targeting with either their current pick or if they move up to two. So why not explore trying to move up to first overall even if just for the hell of it.

Am I aware that this scenario is highly unlikely? Yes, I am but it was an interesting conversation topic and I wanted to write about it. So for any of you Sixers fans out there would you make this deal?
