We’re so fucking back baby. The Philadelphia Phillies are back in first place in the NL East after taking 2 of 3 games against the New York Mets this past weekend.
And what a weekend it was for the Phils minus Saturday of course. Friday night the bats came alive in the 7th inning and the blowout was on as the Phillies would win 10-2. Friday night also provided another classic Zach Wheeler performance against his former team.
Saturday was a forgetful night for Mick Abel, as he let up back to back to back homeruns and the Phillies were blown out 11-4.
But, Sunday night in primetime on Sunday night baseball the Phillies bats once again were on full display. Schwarber hit a bomb to straight away center field, Sosa hit a ball 430 feet, and Castellanos had two doubles. The Phillies would go on to win 7-1.
Oh, and on top of all that we got a Jesus Luzardo masterclass. 6.2 innings pitched, 0 earned runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts.
With the win last night the Phillies now lead the NL East by one game over the Mets. With series against the Astros and Braves coming up this week, the Phillies need to carry over this momentum and extend their division lead.
It may only be June but were getting towards the dog days of summer and this is the time for the Phillies to put their foot on the gas and put their stamp on claiming the NL East.
