The rumor mill is on fire right now as to be expected with the offseason in full swing and the NHL Draft just a few days away.
Danny Briere has already made one big splash this week with the trade for Trevor Zegras but does that mean the Flyers are done? Not by a long shot.
Next up on the menu, solidifying the goaltending situation. The Flyers brass knows that to be competitive they are going to need better goaltending than what Ersson, Fedotov, and Kolosov gave them last year.
We have heard the rumors of Jake Allen, Joey Daccord, Joel Hofer, John Gibson, and Thatcher Demko possibly being moved and while they all could be solid options, there’s one name we haven’t heard much about but I think could be a perfect fit.
Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins.
Is this a long shot? Maybe since he did sign an 8 year extension but anything is possible. The Bruins are in rebuild mode and could very well have a full blown fire sale. Swayman is for sure a guy that they could get a decent return for.
The 26 year old goaltender had his statistically worst season last year behind a Bruins team that was very disappointing. Not all of that was on him obviously as the Bruins were a mess all year long.
Add in a bad year and a team that is starting a rebuild with the fact that the relationship between Swayman and the Bruins is still probably not in the best place after some hard contract negotiations and it could be the perfect storm.
The Flyers have the assets to make the Bruins a solid offer and could pull this off. Is it going to happen? More than likely not but it’s something that could be worth taking a shot on.
Swayman is absolutely someone that the Flyers should be calling on as he would immediately step in and be the true number one goaltender the Flyers need.
