Over the weekend the Philadelphia Phillies took 2 out of 3 from the Miami Marlins. It would be considered a great weekend as they get ready to start another key series with the New York Mets who trail the Phillies by 7 games once again for the NL East lead.
But, the biggest takeaway from the weekend is the possible injury to shortstop Trea Turner.
Turner left Sunday’s game with what is being called a hamstring strain and is getting an MRI today. This is very concerning giving Trea had a similar injury last season and missed 6 weeks because of it. If and again that is an IF because we have not heard anything yet, it is the same as last year that’s a huge blow to the Phillies World Series hopes.
Turner is hitting .305 with 15 HRs and 69 RBI’s on the season and has been the Phillies most consistent hitter. It is one thing to lose him for a few games, the Phillies could manage that. But if he is out for lets say 6 weeks? That is a major problem.
That 6 week time frame puts us into the playoffs and possibly even into the NLCS where he could make his return. That is if the Phillies are in the NLCS. Look on paper this team should be playing for a World Series come the end of October. But we have seen the inconsistency of the lineup and they are already without their ace Zach Wheeler for the rest of the year. Adding Trea Turner to the injury is less than ideal and is detrimental to their World Series hopes.
Pitchers can approach the Phillies lineup way different without Turner in the lineup and it adds even more pressure onto Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. Sure Edmundo Sosa has been solid when he has had to step in to the lineup, but him in an everyday role?

Now, I know theres another option that most people are hoping for but I just don’t know how likely it is. Calling up Aiden Miller.
Yes, Phillies fans have been clamoring for this all season long and now with Trea Turner out is it finally time?
My instant reaction is no it is not. That’s not because I don’t want to see him in the MLB I just don’t think the Phillies want to throw him into the lineup in the middle of an intense playoff push.
Plus it seems like if they wanted him up here they would have called him up earlier in the season.
Regardless of that, all of Philadelphia is currently holding their breath waiting to hear news about Trea Turners hamstring. The Phillies kickoff a four game series with the Mets starting tonight. I’m sure we will hear an update on Trea closer to game time.
