It may only be four games into the Porter Martone era with the Philadelphia Flyers but the hype is real.
Porter Martone has come in and made an immediate impact with his new team. None bigger than his welcome to the NHL moment on Sunday afternoon against the Boston Bruins…I’ll let you all enjoy that one more time.
Just an unreal moment for the 19 year old, and the eruption from the crowd had me thinking it was 2010 all over again.
In his first four games Martone has 1 goal and 2 assists and is +2. But it’s more than just him getting on the scoresheet and scoring a clutch goal. He hasn’t looked out of place at all in these first four games.
Since the 2nd period of his first game against the Capitals, Martone has been a force every time he’s stepped on the ice.
He’s been averaging over 16 minutes of ice time and has 20 shots on goal so far including 9 shots in the game against the Red Wings back on April 2nd.
Playing on a line with Travis Konecny and Christian Dvorak, the three of them have already developed some great chemistry. Here’s a great example of that again from Sunday afternoon…
Just an unreal touch pass between the legs here from Martone to spring Dvorak to lead to a goal.
Some people may have thought the moment might be too big for Martone, joining the team with less than 10 games left and in the middle of an intense playoff push. However, Martone has taken it in stride and has shined in his first four games.
He shows no signs of slowing down either and with the Flyers currently holding the 3rd spot in the Metropolitan division they are going to need him to continue to produce.
Martone and the Flyers head up the turnpike for another huge game against the New Jersey Devils tonight. A win and they get another step closer to clinching a playoff spot and possibly setting up the return of the battle of the keystone state in the first round of the playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
