While the Flyers dropped an absolute dud of a game last in Detroit, they are still sitting in third place in the Metropolitan division and control their own destiny. Plus, if you knew anything about the Flyers last night was pretty much expected. Flyers play well, get closer to playoffs, more eyes are watching, and boom they shit the bed. It’s the classic Flyers cycle.
However, we’re not going to dwell on last night. We are onto Saturday and hoping they can secure their spot in the playoffs as soon as Sunday.
Now, onto the other news coming out of the Flyers organization. It appears that goaltender Yegor Zavragin could be on his way to North America, sooner rather than later.
I am looking into some other sources when it comes to this news(You know like a good journalist does) but this guy has been pretty reliable when it comes to players coming from Russia. He was on the Michkov news first as well as Fedotov.
The 20 year old netminder was drafted in the third round by the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2023. Since that time he has been playing over in Russia in the KHL and has been spectacular.
In his three KHL seasons his numbers have been great, this past season for SKA St. Petersburg he played in 18 games and had a .949 SV% to go along with a 1.44GAA. Phenomenal numbers for a 20 year old in the best overseas league.
We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves here as we don’t know for sure that he is going to be signing his ELC just yet. Usually though when there’s smoke, there’s fire and things move quick when it comes to these Russian players.
Sources closer to the Flyers organization have said that there is nothing going on with Zavragin. But let’s be honest they do their best to keep things in house and this time will be no different.
I don’t have an exact timeframe on when he could be signing but don’t be surprised if it happens over the weekend or shortly after. For now, we continue to focus on the Flyers playoff push. They head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets tomorrow night.
The Flyers could clinch a playoff spot as early as Sunday if they take care of business against the Jets and get a little help. If the Islanders and Blue Jackets both lose Saturday and Sunday and the Flyers beat the Jets the Flyers would clinch a playoff spot. Below is some visuals to help with their clinching scenarios.
